September update 2023 SA *Forecast prepared between September 17th-19th 2023 Review: Go Giants! G’Day everyone, hope you are keeping well. Mid-September is here and getting well overdue for an update on proceedings for the month, a month that has really thrown the mercury around in a short space of time with very large diurnal ranges. A quick recap on the progress so far first. A fairly solid cold front very late on the 6th and during the 7th delivered a band of rain across agricultural areas with some useful falls generally in the 10-20mm range although totals did drop off east of the ranges and much further north. Behind this, much colder air moved through with numerous ‘coldies’ with small hail and the odd isolated cold air rumble. The wind also was significant with this system with a small but tight low slinging up during the evening of the 7th bringing 70-80km/hr gusts, with Neptune Island (not unusual) recording the highest gust at 107km/hr. Quick Update SA Low with cold air, squally winds and rain September 7th-8th 2023 G’Day everyone, even though I have just issued the September outlook, I figured it was important to push out a little update to show the changes that have happened with this system. In short, it certainly is going to pack a punch with already some nice falls from the initial frontal band. This band thickened from showers to rain about 80km further west than it initially appeared which is a great thing for rainfall. Some heavy totals and minor flooding already through the Adelaide suburbs this morning. Currently as of Midday on the 7th, the low is rapidly developing in response to the strong temperature gradient from ahead of the low with the warm air advecting SE across NSW/VIC and the colder air rapidly barrelling NE up from the deep south and this colder air is already beginning to push in across the agricultural areas with convective cells and short but sharp showers developing. With some solar heating

September 2023 Outlook SA *Forecast prepared between September 1st-5th 2023 Review: G’Day everyone, hope you are keeping well as Spring has now sprung! A time where many things come to life including the main heat engine of Australia – something I will discuss further down. I hope you all had a good Father’s Day as well. I also must apologise for the lateness of this update. I snapped a ball joint as well as destroyed the driveshaft among other things on the car on Father’s Day whilst making a turn and it’s been a busy process fixing that! But firstly, let's have a quick recap on what August delivered. It certainly has been broadly quite dry but with some very handy and well-timed rains through that mid-section of the month, which was our best window for rainfall and by and large it delivered quite well, especially so for areas in the Lower North, chiefly near the ranges and elevated terrain and also Northern Yorke Peninsula. Other areas in the Eastern and Southern Mallee and Upper
